and why you should concern yourself with it.

What is this Snowflake anyway?

First of all, Snowflake is a browser addon created by the Tor Project https://www.torproject.org/. Depending on the situation, the ISP can or must block the entry nodes of the Tor network. This means that you can no longer access the Tor network in the normal way to access information of your choice.

Snowflake turns us into a proxy and forwards the encrypted traffic to the Tor network. If many users use Snowflake, this would mean that the ISP would have to block millions of IP addresses, which may change again after 24 hours.

There is no real load on your system or internet speed.

You can install the addon via Firefox or Chrome alternative via https://snowflake.torproject.org/?lang=en_US by clicking on the button of the respective browser. You can also find some useful hints and information on the Snowflake page.

Why should I use this now - I am only one person?

That was at least one of the first thoughts I had. I just tested it and saw how many users can be helped if the computer runs for 10 hours, as it did for me.

In the browser you have the Snowflake icon logo snowflake browser and you click on it.

When I tested this a few days ago, my computer was running for about 13 hours. During this time 14 people were able to connect to the Tor network. I must admit that this doesn't sound much, but if you consider that I am only one, then you can see that there is a need for it.

I also believe that this is one of the biggest mistakes of our time. Just because you think, "well, I'm sure enough others are doing that, why should I?" and that's exactly the mistake. It is precisely because you think you are one of the few that you should participate in projects like Snowflake.

Just before finishing my text, I noticed that the logo has changed.
someone is connected through me via Tor

Translated, it says that a user is currently connected through me - yep, that feels good.
